Descriptions and tags that help people find you
Titles and thumbnails win the click; descriptions and tags help the right viewers find the video in the first place — through search, and as context for recommendations.
Write the description like a human first
- First two lines matter most. They show in search results and above the fold. Say what the video is and who it helps, using the words a viewer would type into search.
- Add chapters. List timestamps (one per line, starting with 0:00) and the player turns them into clickable chapters viewers can jump through.
- Link onward. Point to the next video in the series, the playlist, and your channel — descriptions are quiet traffic directors.
- Draft with help. Studio's AI description writer can produce a first draft from your topic; the auto-tags tool suggests tags. Edit both — they do not know your audience like you do.
Tags
Tags are a supporting signal, not magic. Add the specific phrases your video is truly about (the topic, the tools, the names), skip anything misleading, and do not stuff tags into the description text itself.
