Add captions and make videos accessible
Captions are not a niche feature. They serve deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers, everyone watching with the sound off, and viewers following along in a second language. Captioned videos are simply watchable in more situations.
Add captions in Studio
- Open the video in Studio → Content and find the subtitles/captions section of the editor.
- Upload a subtitle file (SubRip
.srtis the common format) and set its language. Vidnexa converts it for the player automatically. - Save, then open the watch page and check the captions from the player's settings menu — and read the on-screen transcript panel to proofread timing and spelling.
Writing good captions
- Caption what is said, including meaningful sounds when they matter to understanding.
- Keep lines short enough to read at speaking speed, and break them at natural pauses.
- Spell names and technical terms correctly — automatic tools often get these wrong, so proofread.
Beyond captions
Accessibility is a habit: describe important visuals out loud in your narration, avoid meaning carried by colour alone, and keep on-screen text large and high-contrast. Every viewer benefits.
Note: Vidnexa does not currently generate captions automatically — you upload your own file. Many free tools can draft an .srt from your audio for you to correct.
