Debeers and Botswana does have a 50-50 partnership but some kind of was Debeers owns 85% stake in the diamond business and Botswana owns 15%. Its always some finagling in there when it comes to those caucizoids

So, I came to this video to tell you that economic dependence on export of only diamonds is and will be the biggest tragedy for Botswana, with the rise of lab grown diamonds lot of African economy will collapse.

Botswana leadership over the decades, I have so much respect for you. You took a valuable resource found in your country and ploughed that bounty back into the country for the economic and social benefit of your 'entire' people and general enrichment of society. You could have gone the other way and become Abachas, Dos Santos, Mugabes, Zumas, Ramaphosas, etc. and instead amassed extraordinary 'personal' wealth for you and your various parties' politicians, 'in men', corporate buddies and foreign handlers/leeches. We look at other countries with great resources who have mismanaged and wasted them away through corruption, greed, incompetence and mismanagement.

Times are hard for you presently, but that isn't because you stole, mismanaged and deliberately allowed your resources to be plundered on the cheap by foreign vultures.

I wish you the very best as a country as you navigate new realities and forge new ways forward. I hope African leaders learn powerful lessons from you in both your successes and current challenges, and that they can build themselves along the lines of a Botswana (or a Norway, another great example of visionary and disciplined leadership using a national resource dedicatedly to advance the entire country.)

Zimbabwe has great resources and I hope the current leadership takes a leaf out of the books of countries like Botswana, Norway and even Singapore, that used respective wealth and ingenuity to build once poor countries into countries that are now the envy of the world. ❤ from your neighbour 🇿🇼 to you 🇧🇼.
Ps, and keep being as friendly and peaceful as you are described.🙏🏾♥️

I had no idea Botswana had achieved so much since 1966. Going from one of the world's poorest countries to one of Africa's best-governed, most law-abiding, and prosperous nations is truly inspiring. In two months, Botswana will celebrate 60 years of independence. As an Ethiopian, I wish my country were on the same path of unity and development instead of being held back by a political system that, in my view, prioritizes ethnic division over a shared national vision. Viva Botswana!

Just a suggestion: They could build a two-lane road in anticipation for population growth and hence more cars in the future and they could also invest in African architecture, not necessarily steel and glass buildings/box buildings. What I mean is, they could try to incorporate built African architecture in a modern way.

Why?

Progress ≠ Westernisation

Westernisation ≠ Progress
