Good interview and kudos for making the move to Kenya which is beautiful country. I think your type of project for the autistic children , ABA would definitely thrive in Rwanda and would be very welcomed plus the visa situation would not be much of an issue in Rwanda. They work well with anyone investing there, no scamming in 🇷🇼, several Black Americans over there with clinics and schools projects. I wish you all the best !

Sounds like your on the right track to being fully integrated into Kenyan society. To take it to the next level, I suggest learning a bit more of the language and hanging out with more middle and working class Kenyans. Next join visit a few churches for the casual Sunday service. This is a great way to integrate and improve your swahili. And finally buy in small shamba in outer suburbs and do some low maintenance farming. Half acre will be fine. Somewhere like Uthiru Nairobi area which is 20 minutes drive from your apartment. Taking it the next level if worth the effort and will charge your life for the better.
Best of luck.

Fascinating video, in the light of my own, very different experience of living in Nairobi. I’m a 70 something Scot, been back home in Scotland since 1967, after ten years childhood in Nairobi. End of the British colonial period and the beginning of independence. As white expats, my family and I lived in a very privileged bubble, isolated from the real lives of so many real Kenyans. We hardly saw anything of the rest of the country, apart from a couple of beach holidays near Mombasa. I would urge you to get out and sample real Nairobi music and other culture, and real Nairobi street food, which I wish I’d done. And get out of Nairobi and see all the other wonderful, beautiful places that Kenya has to offer. Kenya yetu, hakuna matata!

@seanbradleyofficial
This is the best video of the American experience in Kenya that I have watched so far. I just returned from Nairobi--and everything commented upon vibes accurate. I found the comments about the resistance of the idea by friends and family to be very salient. There is only one way to truly understand what's happening around the globe...and that's to put boots on the ground and go there. Africa is not an exception to that rule. Hollywood's depiction--and how Americans in general are taught to imagine Africa --is not reflective of reality. Nairobi--and Kenyans--on the whole are some of the warmest and kindest people I've met on the planet. Arguably markedly more welcoming than the average American. Also--the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in my life was in Nairobi. (The Marriott there is a world class hotel, and perhaps one of the most secure places I've ever been.) Some of the roughest urban living conditions I've also seen, however, were on the outskirts of the Nairobi. Comparable, if not more challenging, than say a place like Juarez, Mexico. Traffic and street life in some parts of Nairobi is chaotic on an order unseen in the United States. But there's an optimism and pride among Kenyans about the future of Kenya. I do not think it's ill placed. There's a growing political partnership between the US and Kenya, too--it seems--that I think might be beneficial to both nations. In any case: with or without the US, the future for Kenya seems bright. Its trajectory is upward...and other parts of the globe, including some parts of the US--cannot make that claim.

About people being opportunistic in Kenya;that is a phenomenon seen in Nairobi even to us natives.
Trust nobody in Nairobi it's a tricksters city.
That's why I advise you to find a home in the countryside, most preferably in the Rift Valley or the coast(Avoid Central Kenya).All white immigrants do that and they get less problems. In the city you'll not get any meaningful social connections as most Kenyans living in Nairobi say like 80% are economic migrants from rural Kenya.That means that in a few years, expect some of them to disappear from the city.

For premium products that you say are expensive, kindly consider shifting to Kenyan brands which are equally very effective to the purpose.
If not Kenyan, then go for South African products or consider online shopping your exotic products from TZ or Uganda.
Also, consider buying a ranch or a small farm outside the city most preferably in the Rift Valley where you can leave for weekend or make it your home entirely.
Having a farm for farming is how white immigrants consolidate their stay in Africa.
They move in and establish themselves as settler farmers as a sustainable economic activities before their main professions break even.

While I agree that expenses should be shared, please remember that, while 50 USD spent on an outing is 2% of your monthly expenses, for an average Kenyan it is more like 20% of his monthly expenses.
