Sorry this is very long but your video really took me back 40 yrs ,just like watching me as a young woman making & remaking clothes ..Sorry about my typing I'm using a vouce/ typing app.for blind people .I.am waiting for a human donor cornea transplant I.lost 80% of my eyesight when I was in the ICU fighting for my life with Covid..worst thing to ever happen to a creative person losing one's sight so.PLEASE all of you.look after your eyes with yearly eye checks .
I' m laughing ( in a good & kind way btw,:)
your video...OMG not sure ( I' m 59 & from Liverpool originally in NW England & it's fair to say I was very much in the ORIGINAL post punk / goth scene .born in 1967 so I.remember seeing the Sex Pistols on tv as a kid & being in awe..I.STILL listen to them ,Bauhaus & Type O.Negative ..although to be they're a ' new band ' Ive still got 1970' s Black.Sabbath on vinyl I.still love
) I was laughing looking at the names of bands stencilled on your top because half were either old friends sadly many of us were casualties to the hedonistic excesses ( including myself now its,caught up in me 25 yrs of well enjoying myself ๐Ÿ˜›) lol I remember I'm Kurt Cobain' s last interview him saying he loved many of the post punk bands that came out of my old hometown of Liverpool & it was great to hear .
But on a happy note..watching you is the very embodiment that history really does come round in a circle ..culturally it's all cyclic..The dying with bleach is called discharge printing & can be very beautiful especially if you can get your hands on a nice length.of cotton velvet curtain ( she's beautifully ) or an old silk velvet skirt..The secret is open the windows..going in a bathroom with a fan is useless ,personally my lungs are wrecked ( COPD)all the years of smoking pot in my younger days and using heavy chemicals in printmaking.we even used acid on copper lethal fumes & no masks ever even suggested ..crazy .it's all so much kinder to the health these days I think.our art lecturers were trying to slowly kill.is lol.
If ( this is more to younger folks ) don't have any fabric paint or you've only got very thin budget acrylic paint...then if you're wanting to paint a colourful design on say a cotton t-shirt ๐Ÿ‘•you can buy really cheap fabric medium ( there's places that are school suppliers well there is in the UK that sells it cheap ,Schola is a good cheap brand) ..It will turn ANY acrylic into machine washable fabric paint..Also.Again for younger folks,students ( I was a poor student myself from my O' levels to my masters for about 7 yrs ..so.I.KNOW about being a poor art student & going to charity shops & jumble sales) if your acrylic which is incredibly versatile stuff...if it's thin cheap paint them get a box of cornflour ( think in the US you say cornstarch ??) and just get out the amount you want to use ( a covered little pot or covered with plastic wrap is fine ) mix your thin paint with cornflour..sounds mental but it won't lighten the colour at all & turns it into heavy.body acrylic..perfect for painting leather .jackets ( I.used to make money ยฃยฃยฃ for my art stuff painting bespoke biker jackets in the 80' s ) I've painted a few great pairs of old Doc Marten' s boots or my fav was to go to an army surplus store ( was called the Army & Navy store over here years ago ) and buy French army boots ( often they were unworn stock ) and I' s spray paint or stencil.psychedelic patterns & natural fairy tale themes like mushrooms ๐Ÿ„etc...The other thing & this is extreme lok..look in back alleys in huge skips ( dumpsters?) when naughty people dump their own settees out in the road ๐Ÿ˜กand if they're made of leather I guarantee the back of the settee you'll have a huge piece of perfect leather..When nobody is about get a very sharp craft knife & slash the whole back panel out..If it's a gross colour you can dye it with a bottle of Rit..make it up as normal with hot water just a little stronger mix..I.made some lovely satchel bags ( not sure if you had them ,every English child born in my day 50' s -70' s We all had them for school ) ..Look out in charity ( thrift. ? shops ) for anyone getting rid of a really strong old industrial seeing machine that will easily cope with seeing thick leather ..OR buy yourself a piercing wheel made for adding a row of holes to push your leather needle through ..I.used to make leather bound sketch books ,I've always been vegetarian but saw nothing wrong using recycled leather goods instead of them ending up in a landfill dump...ALSO one of your best places for studs,trims is your local shop that sells materials for DIY upholstery ( covering old chairs eff ) you can buy a whole role of studs by the metre,brass,full silver and every day 4 inches is a hole with a screw on stud...dead easy instead of banging on every stud by hand..better for your both household stuff .The other thing is look at discount fabric shops ,old curtains in charity shops is a great source of lots of very cheap fabrics like curtains...always pre-shrink such fabrics in the washing machine in a day 60 degree wash before you say cut out the pieces for a jacket.By pre-shrinking fabric you'll save yourself the heartache of wearing clothes once ,washing on a low heat as we all hopefully do for the environment and then finding vintage fabric has shrunk so all your hard work is wasted ..it won't fit .
I taught printmaking & constructed textiles so did a lot of hand feltmaking ..There's an incredible machine called an electric felting machine..looks EXACTLY.like a seeing machine but will mean any fabric together to basically create brand new bespoke fabric.The machine cost me about ยฃ150 ( maybe 190 dollars ?) and you can use up even tiny scraps of fabric ,scraps of embroidery threads eye and create everything from amazing pillows to my personal fab jewellery! beautiful.wrist cuffs,chokers and brooches that absolutely nobody will have .
Sorry to note everyone but I.am the walking encyclopedia of creating something out of nothing...I've got a few lovely Victorian English oak barley twist legged carved tables ..don't be afraid to look outside houses that are being renovated & said the bins...maybe ask permission but if it's dumped in a bin ( look especially for old pictures on canvas you can paint over them & make your own art ) and look for old mirrors & picture frames and use the skills learnt in videos like this & transfer them to upcycle old pieces for your home or bedrooms of you're young still at home & you'll have things nobody else will own !
I.had to slow your voice down to 0.75 ,my word are you aware how fast your talk.I.couldn't understand a word lol.at 0.75 I've subscribed & enjoying your channel in bed at 2.10 am ..I might be old but I'm still a total nightowl..or vampire who thrived in the dark. lol...Take care lovely seeing young people making things...PLEASE look.up online some of the late great Vivienne Westwoods exhibitions of punk.clothes we've had at the Victoria & Albert ( V& A) in London...look at the work too of the amazing Zandra Rhodes who made some of David Bowie' s Ziggy Starducst/ Alladdin Sane early 70' s stage clothes..ALSO for inspiration look. at English horror films I.particularly recommend 1970' s Hammer Horror films ..the women's clothing is so gorgeous ,all corsets & big bosoms lol.and huge hair..pure goth xx

I know you probably wonโ€™t respond to this because this video was papered like a year ago but I figured Iโ€™d ask. Your BTVS jacket was so cool! (Buffy is like my favorite thing ever). Where did you find some designs to make stencils for the jacket? Or did you design them yourself?
@ApotropaicOutsider
This video is so epic, thank you! I'm familiar with pretty much all of r techniques, but it's a really nice refresher for my memory about what to even do again after a long period of housing instability led to me having to really simplify my creative practices and DIY things. I'm in stable housing again now and building things back up and was feeling a bit overwhelmed and this has really helped ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿฆจ
@domciachlebek6559
Oh my god!!! This video is everything to me. I am an absolute beginner in all stuff DIY/sewing, but I always enjoyed some cross stiching and crafts in general. Now I wanted to get into alternative style more (not just in fashion aspect might I add), but I felt discouraged seeing pretty things being fast fashion made of plastic or very pricey brands that make beautiful stuff with better materials, based far away from me. So I decided to take up sewing and itโ€™s been going great, I got an old mechanic machine from my grandpa and I am just starting my collection. I havenโ€™t done any project just yet, only learning to sew in a straight line xD This video is going to help me SO SO MUCH!! I feel so inspired and more motivated to actually try to do some project now (instead of watching 8373636 videos of other people crafting and tutorials out of fear of beginning and failing miserably leading to discouragement). And the thing you said about not cutting the pieces of yourself to fit into alt style - this resonated with me as well. I am still exploring and I think mostly alt style may be my thing, but I still like some funny or whimsy elements in my outfit here and there. We will see how it goes c: Anyway, thank you so much, you are amazing, the video is the best I have watched in this topic so far, insta subscribe, greetings from Poland ๐Ÿซก๐Ÿฉถ

Think of them as a reference library for your dying projects. Also pro tip: a lot of times you need to double the amount of dye you use to get a nice deep black or other dark colors. Then just sew over the tape (which is also really easy to draw on, so you can mark your lines), and after the seam is done you can pull off the tape and rip it apart right at the seam. Usually it comes out pretty nice, and if small pieces are left you can just use tweezers to remove it :)
57:07 Instead of moving the fabric machines usually have a reverse button. So you sew a few steps forward, then back, and than you just go forward up to the end. Most likely it's the large thing on the right side of your machine underneath the stitch patterns you have to push down.

For printing on fabric, I really like lino printing! You don't even need the lino block, you can use basically everything as a stamp. Me and my best friend even used potatos once, worked like a charm!

This video is nothing short of a godsend. I've been wanting to get into crafts and DIYing for months now, but I've been totally frozen by all of the different things to try out. I think I'm going to be able to break out of that by making a stencil with that method of yours and attaching it to something cool. Might be the start of my own battle jacket or something. Regardless, I'm truly inspired and I am So Excited! Thank you so much
@SatanicPanicattheDisco
So I'm currently rediscovering my interest in goth music and fashion that I loved as a teen, but was forbidden by my super Christian parents. So thanks for this, and also, I LOVE your hair!

this is not really a tip but if you absolutely hate embroidery floss (i have sensory issues with it and i just hate using it), you can just sew in the same place a couple of times over. Also sewing thread is often way cheaper (and you get way more per item).
if you want to stop your piece from freying out, you can do a blanket stitch all around the piece. There are a lot of designs you can work with. It also helps if your fabic is flimsy and falls apart easily and you want the piece to hold up.
