Is it that hot compared to Philippines? The only reason I'm avoiding it is because I went to Singapore last year and it was too hot and I can't imagine going back to SE Asia.

Hey guys. I love your contents. But going to Lau pat sat is not the best choice if u want local hawker. Thats for tourist. Every visitor video shows Lau pat sat, china town, maxwell hawker. You should try old airport road hawker or Tiong bahru hawker, Zion Road Hawker. They are the so called the 2nd tier. (1st tier being the tourist killer. Haaaa) 3rd tier will be places local will go for. More outskirts, heart land hawkers. I.e Bedok, Ang mo kio, these are what Singaporeans go for. Check them out

$13? for sugar cane? Singapore do not scam people but I am not sure what you are getting into. It is not $13 or anywhere close. $13 will be in some bougie hotel price.

If you like roasted meat, try Kam Roast. Their duck meat is next level. Kam's Roast is a direct offshoot of the Michelin-starred Kam’s Roast Goose in Hong Kong. Because they are unable to serve goose in Singapore, they adapted their award-winning roasting methods for duck. Then they have the grilled roast pork...the crackling is yummy and they have two standards...the regular and the special. The special has like 60% of fat and if you are health conscious stick to the regular; it is just as tasty and good. Then we have the usual Char Siew which is also good. Pro-tip - ask for the "Four Treasure Rice" which allow you to sample their roast duck, BBQ pork, soya chicken, and often other accompaniments like salted egg in a single dish.
@matthewong1953
@@matthewong19533 months ago
I think Jan is addicted to Laksa! If you really want the alleged best and original Laksa - go to Roxy Square in the Katong area (east cost). It's a small stall in a really small area of just 6 or 7 stalls. Be warned, seating is limited. It has run by the family members of "Jangut Laksa". The dish was pioneered by Ng Juat Swee, who hailed from Fujian, China. He married a local Katong Nyonya, and it was from his wife’s family that he learned the guarded heirloom recipe for Nyonya laksa. In the 1940s, during the difficult post-WWII years, Janggut began selling his laksa from two metal buckets slung over a pole, walking the streets near the Marine Parade beach. His nickname of "Jangut" comes from a few long hairs growing from a mole on his chin. "Jangut" is malay for beard. In 1950, Janggut and his younger brother, Ng Chwee Seng, set up a permanent stall at the Hock Tong Hin coffee shop at 49 East Coast Road. While they eventually registered it as "Marine Parade Laksa" in 1963, the locals simply referred to it as "Janggut Laksa" or "Katong Laksa." Janggut’s version became famous for its unique serving style. The rice noodles are cut into short, stubby pieces, allowing the entire dish to be eaten with only a spoon, eliminating the need for chopsticks. This convenience earned it the nickname "spoon laksa." Just like the famous Burger Wars in the USA between McDonalds and Burgerking, we have our version called the "Laksa Wars" and today you will find lots of people selling the famous "Katong Laksa"...they are not the original and are copy-cats. Today, most Singaporeans recognize "Jangut Laksa" as the true original laksa as it is run by Jangut's niece (Ng Sway Hong) and nephew (Ng Kok Soon). Jangut passed away in 1986 at the age of 85.
