The dissing of their discipline at the end is so typical of Bloomberg.
Singaporeans just don't want to live in heaps of trash and feces, like many US and European cities are today. And if democracy needs to go to ensure that, then democracy needs to go.

I always TELL my children 👶you can either have Dubai money or Singapore🇸🇬money!! my pick take Singapore Chinese HARD WORK 😓with little bit of Australian🇦🇺mineral resources on top ……… you can give Singapore🇸🇬to GAZA residents and it will become a failed-state within one generation?? The 3 great men who designed and developed Singapore: Lee Kuan Yew (1923–2015); Dr. Goh Keng Swee (1918–2010) and Sinnathamby Rajaratnam (1915–2006)
I use to remember western media calling Singapore a Dictatorship even the CIA tried very hard to topple these great men Imagine if they succeeded or Singapore was still a British colony OR followed the IMF and World Bank Singapore would be nothing like it is today.

Based on my observations, it has access to lower cost labor of near by countries. Many day labora go home at night via train. Entanglement is a big win. In 2000, every weekend business chaps flying out to hk or other places for "vacation", it just not much to do in those days. Smart move to collect all the money in house. Well done. Super secure is another reason the country is successful, IMHO.

@BLR1GBattlemaster
Few things, Singapore has a high GINI coefficient, representing large wealth and income inequality. Second, small countries like Singapore that are tax havens have grossly distorted GDP per Capita numbers, strictly because of money flowing through the country for tax sheltering purposes. It produces no economic benefit, and countries like Ireland have recognized that and have implemented new measurements to remove these distortions in their GDP.
