Climate Change | Western Cape Dept. of Agriculture assessing impact of damaging storms

The Western Cape government has formally approached the National Disaster Management Centre to have recent devastating storms classified as a provincial disaster.

The province is grappling with the aftermath of a devastating storm last week that claimed 11 lives and caused extensive flooding.

Tens of thousands of residents were displaced. The Western Cape Department of Agriculture is assessing the impact of severe weather conditions.

According to the department, the agricultural sector has been particularly hard hit, with extensive damage reported in areas such as Hex River Valley, Grabouw/Elgin, and the Ceres and Worcester areas.

Western Cape Minister of Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism, Dr Ivan Meyer, joins us to talk about the impact of severe weather conditions in the province.
