Hantavirus Explained: How Dangerous Is the Virus Spreading Global Concern?

Decode With Sudhir Chaudhary: After COVID-19, global concern is now rising over the spread of Hantavirus following reported cases on a cruise ship that arrived in Spain from Argentina. Health authorities and the WHO have become alert after passengers from 23 countries underwent medical screening, testing and quarantine procedures. Around 125 passengers were evacuated from the ship and sent back to their respective countries, while WHO has advised a 42-day quarantine period. So far, 11 cases and 3 deaths linked to the virus have been reported, although WHO has ruled out the possibility of a pandemic at this stage. Unlike Covid-19, Hantavirus does not spread directly between humans and is mainly transmitted from rodents to humans.
