SIU probes Free State Government Bursary Scheme

The Special Investigating Unit says the Free State Government Bursary Scheme failed the very students it was meant to protect. Authorised by President Cyril Ramaphosa in 2023 after years of Auditor-General warnings, the investigation has now traced how public funds meant for skills development were mismanaged on a massive scale. The SIU says accountability is finally catching up, with money recovered and criminal cases opened.
