Hidden Stories Behind the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea – Part 1: Shanghai

On March 1, 1919, a nationwide movement for independence swept across the Korean Peninsula. About a month later, on April 11, the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea was established in Shanghai, China. Although founded outside the Korean Peninsula, the Provisional Government adopted a constitutional democratic republican system and carried out diplomatic, military, financial, educational, and propaganda efforts for independence. For 27 years—from its founding until its return—it remained in exile, yet served as the central force of the independence movement. We retrace those historic sites together with members of the Heungsadan and descendants of independence patriots.


한반도 전역에서 독립을 염원한 만세 운동이 펼쳐졌던 1919년 3월 1일.
그로부터 약 한 달 뒤인 4월 11일 중국 상하이에서 대한민국 임시정부가 수립된다.
임시정부는 한반도 밖에서 수립됐으나 헌법에 의한 민주공화국 정부 체계를 갖췄고, 독립을 위한 외교·군사·재정·교육·선전 활동을 추진했다.
수립부터 환국까지 27년을 유랑하면서도 독립운동의 구심점이 되었던 그곳을 흥사단 및 독립유공자 후손들과 함께 찾아가 본다.
