Gqeberha artist gains international praise for Makoti painting

Gqeberha-based artist, Farook Mohammed, is gaining international recognition for his Makoti Painting, created to highlight some of the African continent's most pressing challenges.

The artwork, which represents the diversity of African women, seeks to confront gender-based violence and femicide while promoting unity.

The painting has been nominated for the Global Arts Prize for Innovation, selected from over ten-thousand global submissions.

It's growing acclaim comes at a critical time in South Africa, when marches against illegal immigration, have become increasingly common.
