Trump seeks ‘free hand’ on Iran as Tehran mistrusts US deal, analysts warn

Paul Musgrave, an associate professor of government at Georgetown University in Qatar and a US foreign policy analyst, and Foad Izadi, professor at the Faculty of World Studies at the University of Tehran, tell Al Jazeera that the US president is using Iran policy to shore up domestic political support and seek a “free hand” with Tehran, while Iranian leaders mistrust any US deal that may lack congressional backing and fear promises Washington cannot deliver.
