Art archives Sophiatown's memory: in conversation with Dr Alastaire Meredith

If paintings could talk, two of them in Strauss & Co's flagship Johannesburg gallery would have a lot to say about the city we lost, and the stories we refuse to forget.

The sale held weight as Kentridge, Goldblatt, Hodgins, plus pioneers Bhengu, Pemba, Koloane's pieces were auctioned.

But Sekoto and Siopis held the line.

Both works are rare: pre-exile Sekoto oil, Siopis at full museum scale.
