Residents decry waterlogged land & fear health hazard

For years, dozens of families in Ga-Rankuwa Zone 4, north of Pretoria, have called this wetland home. But residents say constant flooding, damp living conditions and poor drainage are taking a devastating toll on their health and wellbeing. Some suffer from chronic respiratory illnesses and arthritis, while others fear their homes may no longer be safe to live in. Despite repeated pleas for intervention, residents say their calls for help have gone unanswered since 2020. Nonhlanhla Ntshingila reports.
