KwaZulu-Natal Hawks investigator Warrant Officer Karl Sander has told the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry that there are direct links between senior Hawks officials and the theft of a cocaine consignment valued at about R200 million at the Durban harbour in 2021.
On his second day of testimony, Sander further revealed that following his findings, Hawks management temporarily removed him from the Narcotics Unit, citing concerns that his investigations were unsettling powerful drug trafficking networks.
Sander was one of the officers who was subjected to a polygraph test over the mysterious incident - which he failed at the time.
On Tuesday, the Commission revealed that the test he took was considered invalid due to the examinor's errors.
We unpack today's proceedings with Indepedent Security Analyst, Azaniah Mnisi.
