As South Africa marks Freedom Day - a time meant to reflect on dignity, equality and human rights. SABC News returned to the Action for Blind and Disabled Children, a skills development and training centre in Roodepoort, Johannesburg, to follow up on a protest we covered earlier this month. Students had marched peacefully outside the institution, accusing management of corruption, discrimination and a culture of intimidation. These allegations have reopened difficult questions about how NGOs caring for people with disabilities are monitored, and whether enough is being done to protect some of the country’s most vulnerable citizens, years after tragedies like the Life Esidimeni case exposed deadly failures in oversight.
