Precious stones theft suspects to appear in court

Two suspects are this morning expected to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrates' Court in connection with the 2023 alleged theft of precious metals and stones worth just under R15 million.

The suspects - an Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department officer and a businessman - were arrested by IPID this weekend.

The arrests follow testimony at the Madlanga Commission, where Witness K alleged that she suspended EMPD Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi and four others, raided an apartment in Killarney, Johannesburg and removed the metals.
