Court hears more evidence in Mxenge death inquest

Pietermaritzburg High Court judge Pieter Bezuidenhout has heard arguments from the state and legal representatives of witnesses on how the Inquest Act should be interpreted in the re-opened inquest into the 1981 murder of Durban anti-apartheid activist and human rights lawyer - Griffiths Mxenge.

It's the first time in South African legal history that an inquest has been re-opened after a criminal trial. Former Vlakplaas commander - Dirk Coetzee, Albert Nofomela and David Chikalange - were found guilty by the Durban High Court but they were later granted amnesty by the TRC. Two senior officers were found not guilty in the trial.
