The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) field hospital in Rafah is one of very few functional health facilities in the south of Gaza, serving as a primary healthcare provider in the area.
Recently, it saw the entry of medical equipment crucial to respond to the medical needs of people in Gaza, but the organization warns that a single field hospital cannot cope with the "sheer scale" of what is needed.
Healthcare in Gaza has become “a casualty of the armed conflict”, says Pat Griffiths, a spokesperson for the ICRC in Rafah, adding that hospitals in the besieged enclave “don’t look like how a hospital should, riddled with bullets, or damaged by explosive blasts”.
