South Africa's Constitutional Court has overturned a Supreme Court of Appeal ruling in a case involving two Burundian nationals who fled to South Africa between 2008 and 2012 seeking asylum over fears of persecution.

The apex court ruled that rejected asylum seekers cannot remain in the country or submit repeat asylum applications under current law, a decision human rights groups warn could expose vulnerable people to deportation and danger.
