EFF tables motion of no confidence against National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza

The Economic Freedom Fighters has filed a motion of no confidence against National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza. The motion is brought in the name of EFF leader Julius Malema.

This follows the Speaker's decision not to oppose President Cyril Ramaphosa's urgent interdict application in the Western Cape High Court, which seeks to halt the impeachment process linked to the Phala Phala matter.

The Impeachment Committee had resolved that it would oppose the President's application, and the Speaker has since faced criticism for not defending what some parties describe as Parliament's institutional independence.
