Youth of '76 | SACC leads prayer walk to commemorate 16 June 1976

The South African Council of Churches' Youth Forum has led a National Youth Prayer Walk and Youth-led Service in Soweto today, under the theme "A Jubilee of Youth: 50 Years of Courage, Faith and Youth Agency." This year marks 50 years since the 1976 Soweto Uprising — a moment that reshaped South Africa's history and placed youth at the centre of political and social change. The walk began at the Hector Pieterson Memorial and proceeded to Grace Bible Church in Pimville, bringing together veterans of the 1976 uprising and today's youth in a powerful act of remembrance, reflection, and intergenerational healing. During the service, a Youth Covenant of Commitment: For Integrity, Safety and a Better Future was also signed, calling young people to renewed responsibility and active citizenship. To reflect on today's event and its significance, we are now joined by Lulama Ntuta, First Vice President of the SACC.
