French President Emmanuel Macron and Kenyan President William Ruto are hosting a major Africa-France summit in Nairobi aimed at reshaping relations between France and the African continent.
The gathering comes as France attempts to rebuild influence in Africa following growing anti-French sentiment and the withdrawal of French troops from several former colonies in the Sahel region.
Macron says France no longer sees Africa as a “private domain” and wants to promote a new partnership based on trade, investment, and equal cooperation.
