Zimbabwe wins United Nations Security Council seat for 2027-2028 term

Zimbabwe has been elected to a non-permanent, two-year term on the United Nations Security Council, the third time the country will be represented on the body mandated to maintain international peace and security.

Zimbabwe will replace Somalia on the Council, whose term ends on December 31st and will join the Democratic Republic of Congo and Liberia on the Council as part of the "A3" in 2027.

Austria, Portugal and Trinidad and Tobago were also elected while the Philippines and Kyrgyzstan will go to a run-off for fifth and final seat after neither received the two-thirds majority to secure the seat.
