Prime Minister of Japan, Her Excellency Sanae Takaichi, is on her first official visit to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Although this marks her maiden bilateral visit to India, the two leaders have met twice before, most recently during the G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, last month, and earlier on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, in November 2025.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is accompanied by a high-level official delegation, as well as a large business delegation, highlighting the growing importance of the business-to-business (B2B) pillar of the India-Japan partnership. The visit began with a ceremonial welcome for Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday morning. This was followed by restricted and delegation-level talks between the two Prime Ministers at Hyderabad House. During the discussions, both leaders reviewed the broad spectrum of India-Japan ties, covering trade and investment, economic security, defence, supply chain resilience, technology, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges. They reaffirmed the importance of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership in promoting peace, prosperity, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond: Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary, during a special MEA briefing on the official visit of the Prime Minister of Japan to India.
