Tuk-tuk operators in Mombasa are threatening to suspend transport services if newly introduced transport regulations are not reviewed. The operators who have issued a 7-day ultimatum for the suspension of the regulations argue that the measures, including instant penalties and restrictions on the registration of new tuk-tuks, could threaten the livelihoods of thousands of people who depend on the sector, including drivers, vehicle owners and businesses linked to the transport industry. The operators also accused the county government of introducing the regulations without adequate consultation or meaningful public participation.
