Ukrainian families robbed by Moscow | Eastern Express

Russia is using property law to seize Ukrainian homes abandoned by families fleeing occupation, deportation threats, and conscription. This episode follows families who escaped with their children while leaving houses, farms, livestock, and relatives behind. A law signed by Vladimir Putin in December 2025 allows occupation authorities to transfer so-called 'ownerless' properties without court approval. The confiscations are helping Moscow settle Russian citizens in occupied territories and manufacture a new demographic reality. Ukraine is documenting the losses and building an international compensation mechanism, but justice will require making Russia pay for what it has stolen.
