Renowned Palestinian artist Sliman Mansour has died aged 79, prompting hundreds to gather in Birzeit for his funeral. Born a year before Israel's creation, Mansour became known for works such as ‘Camel of Hardship’ and often used soil, henna and straw instead of Israeli-bought materials. He co-founded a gallery raided by Israeli forces and campaigned for a Palestinian art school, a field once banned by Israeli authorities. His final major piece, ‘On the Wing of an Angel’, is now displayed at the Palestinian Museum.
Al Jazeera’s Nida Ibrahim reports from Birzeit, occupied West Bank.
