AI surveillance: Where should governments draw the line?

Protesters from India's youth-led "cockroach" movement are challenging the alleged use of artificial intelligence-powered surveillance during recent demonstrations in New Delhi. A petition before the Delhi High Court has sought the immediate destruction of all biometric data collected and that the court declare mass surveillance unconstitutional. Speaking to CNA’s Asia First, Simon Chesterman, AI governance and policy lead at the National University of Singapore (NUS) AI Institute, weighs in on the growing use of AI-powered surveillance technologies and where governments should draw the line between public security and individual privacy.
