U.S. Federal authorities have indictment former Cuban President Raul Castro in relation to a 1996 shooting down of two US civilian aircraft killing four.
The aircraft were being flown by the anti-Castro exile group 'Brothers to the Rescue' while Raul Castro was the Minister of Defence.
Cuba asserted at the time that the two Cessnas had repeatedly violated the island's airspace, and that the shootdown was an act of national self-defense.
The charges against the 94-year-old younger brother of late Cuban President Fidel Castro were announced by acting US Attorney General, Todd Blanche, at a media conference in Miami, Florida.
A large exiled Cuban American population resides there.
