India state elections: BJP scores major victory in West Bengal

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ruling party is set to win two of four crucial state elections and a Union Territory, as his government looks to expand its influence halfway into a third term. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a decisive win in West Bengal - a state that has been a rare opposition stronghold and has the country's second-largest Muslim population. The BJP also held on to power in the state of Assam for a third straight term, while its allies won the territory of Puducherry.
