Two senior officials in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality - including the metro police department's suspended deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi - are set to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court to face charges of fraud, corruption, and defeating the ends of justice. The two were arrested at by the SAPS Madlanga Task Team Police say the arrest is linked to an ongoing investigation into corruption within the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department. Mkhwanazi spent several days testifying before the Madlanga Commission about his dealings with alleged criminal cartel member, Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala. He has also been accused of running a kidnapping and extortion racket in the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department. On Sunday, second senior municipal official was arrested. Police say the 40-year-old was arrested in Johannesburg.
