Germany is reassessing its security reliance on the United States after Washington said it will withdraw 5,000 personnel stationed in the country, fuelling concerns over a weaker American commitment to European defence.
The move coincides with President Donald Trump’s threat to raise tariffs on EU-made cars, a step analysts say could cost Germany up to $15bn a year.
