The Independent Electoral Commission will today launch its communications campaign at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, for the local government elections scheduled for November the 4th.
The campaign is expected to outline the electoral management body's readiness to hold the polls, and raise awareness on key aspects of the electoral process.
The commission hopes to generate interest in the polls at a time when confidence in the country's democracy is at an all-time low.
According to a recent survey it commissioned with the Human Sciences Research Council, just 17 percent of citizens are interested in voting in the upcoming elections, with only 36 percent preferring democracy as a system of governance.
