Fire and clashes as #Belfast protests escalate into #riots

Hundreds of anti-immigration protesters took to the streets of Belfast, Northern Ireland, after a Sudanese asylum seeker was charged over a knife attack that left a man with serious head and neck injuries.

The unrest escalated into rioting, with a bus set on fire, vehicles and homes torched, and firefighters battling large blazes as thick smoke rose over parts of the city.

Police said the stabbing is not currently being treated as terrorism.
