SAHRC probes Gauteng escalating water crisis

This afternoon, Gauteng's water crisis faces intense scrutiny as the South African Human Rights Commission investigates whether collapsing infrastructure, recurring outages, and failing sanitation systems now amount to a systemic violation of basic human rights.

But beyond dry taps, the inquiry is probing explosive allegations around Gauteng's growing multi-million rand informal water tanker economy including concerns that reliance on outsourced tankers, instead of fixing infrastructure, may have enabled corruption, profiteering, and even possible sabotage within municipal systems.
