Learner denied access to school after going to initiation school

Members of Gauteng's COGTA Portfolio Committee has met with a Johannesburg principal, following allegations that he denied a learner access to the school after a four-month absence.

The learner underwent the Ndebele rite of passage, and was at an initiation school for this period.

A signed letter from the initiation school was given to the principal, which he says he saw for the first time.

He and the school's governing body had to explain to the MPLs why they turned the learner away.
