New S$9m programme to offer early palliative care to patients with advanced kidney disease

Palliative care is set to be introduced earlier for patients with advanced chronic kidney disease. The programme aims to reach more than 5,260 patients in Singapore over four years. Philanthropic organisation Lien Foundation, which is contributing S$9 million, said this will enhance a patient's care journey by ensuring that plans address not only medical needs, but functional, emotional and psychological well-being. Chronic kidney disease affects 14% of Singaporeans and is projected to reach one in four by 2035. Natalie Ong reports.
