US President Donald Trump has warned Iran that “time is of the essence” as negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain deadlocked.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran must “get moving fast” towards a deal or face severe consequences.
The warning came after Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and senior officials in Tehran as Islamabad increases mediation efforts between the two sides.
Iranian officials responded defiantly, warning that any new confrontation could trigger severe retaliation against US assets and forces in the region.
Senior Iranian leaders, including parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said Tehran would not bow to pressure or threats.
The exchange comes amid rising regional tensions linked to the Strait of Hormuz crisis and stalled ceasefire efforts.
Al Jazeera’s Almigdad Alruhaid reports from Tehran.
