In Awati, the desert has been home to local people for generations. Cotton farmers work hard in this sea of sand, facing its harshness every day. Forestry officials have spent 15 years leading villagers in planting trees, building a green barrier that reduces dust storms and boosts cotton harvests. They are not fighting the desert, but seeking a harmonious coexistence — taking from nature and giving back. That is the spirit of Awati, and the soul of Xinjiang.
