As the cost of living continues to strain household budgets, millions of South Africans are still struggling to afford nutritious food despite the country producing enough to feed its population.
From 6 to 10 July, the South African Human Rights Commission will hold the second leg of its National Investigative Hearings into South Africa's Food Systems, focusing on food affordability, pricing, market concentration and access to adequate food.
The Commission was invited to join us this afternoon but was unfortunately unavailable for the interview.
Professor Marc Wegerif from the DSTI-NRF Centre of Excellence in Food Security joins us to discusses food insecurity in South Africa, the drivers of rising food prices and solutions to improve access to affordable, nutritious food.
