Zambia rejects claims of court closures

The swearing-in of Zambian President-elect, Hakainde Hichilema will take place next week on Tuesday.

This according to the Zambian Government, follows the expiration of the seven days provision allowed for filing in of a petition challenging a Presidential election.

The government has also rejected claims that incumbent President Hichilema ordered the closure of the courts to prevent the opposition from filing election petitions.

Hichilema secured a second term in office after winning the hotly contested elections.

The opposition has accused Hichilema of restricting its ability to campaign and suppressing political protest.

Opposition leader Brian Mundubile had reportedly indicated that he would challenge the results in court, alleging vote fraud.
