Overwhelming majority passes Ekurhuleni budget

The City of Ekurhuleni’s R73-billion budget has been passed with an overwhelming majority. 176 councillors voted to adopt the budget, while 31 voted against it, saving the metro from being placed under administration. The council has failed to pass the budget on three separate occasions. Finance MMC, Jongizizwe Dlabathi, has acknowledged that some concessions had to be made, but maintains that the budget remains funded.
