One of the biggest and most destructive storms in decades hit the Western Cape last week. 11 people died.

The storm hit the western part of the province the hardest, and stretched over an area of nearly 400 kilometres.

Two of the largest agri sectors, wine and deciduous fruit, provides employment to hundreds of thousands of people - permanent, seasonal and in the value chain.

With 58-percent of all agri exports deriving from the Western Cape, agriculture is a major economic driver.

The provincial government's early estimates point towards damages running into billions.
