Illegal structures demolished near Joburg bridges

Joburg Transport MMC, Kenny Kunene and Johannesburg Roads Agency CEO, Zweli Nyathi conducted inspections at the major M1 and M2 bridges. The operation led to the demolition of illegal structures near the bridges. The structures were flagged by JRA for posing structural threats and safety concerns. The City officials blamed illegal sand mining and vandalism for the terrible state of the infrastructure. Kunene says governance issues relating to budget, politics and lawlessness are thorny issues.
