With just ten days to go until the FIFA World Cup 2026 kicks off across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, football fever is building — but so is political controversy. President Donald Trump has positioned himself prominently in the tournament's build-up, receiving the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize from FIFA president Gianni Infantino at the World Cup draw in December. Iran's squad faces unresolved visa difficulties, forcing them to relocate their base camp to Tijuana, Mexico, whilst attorneys general in New York and New Jersey have subpoenaed FIFA over ticket pricing concerns.
