Probe into missed warning after fatal Mount Dukono eruption

Authorities are investigating why local guides did not receive notice of a climbing ban at Indonesia’s Mount Dukono, after an eruption on 8 May killed two Singaporean hikers. Survivors say they were unaware of the restrictions, raising concerns over communication gaps. The volcano’s activity has also affected nearby communities in Tobelo, who fear for both their safety and tourism-driven livelihoods. Officials say rules and public awareness will be strengthened.
