From Poland to Kazakhstan: A story of survival and identity

Polish traditions have survived for generations in Kazakhstan, carried on by families whose ancestors were forced to leave Poland between 1936 and 1941.

Around 100,000 Poles were deported or relocated to Kazakhstan as the Soviets saw the Polish minority as a threat to the USSR's security. Today, their descendants continue to preserve the Polish language, customs and cultural traditions.

TVP World's reporter Anastasija Yanchenko met with members of the Polish community and their families. Their stories show how Polish identity has endured thousands of kilometers from Poland.
