Taxi industry | Calls for womens' safety & jobs to be prioritised

Transport Minister, Barbara Creecy is calling on the taxi industry to create meaningful economic opportunities for women and put their safety at the centre.

Creecy was speaking at the SANTACO Women's Month Summit in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, on Monday — where women leaders in the taxi industry, government representatives and law-enforcement officials gathered under the theme, "Women's Safety and Empowerment in Transport."

The summit focused on gender-based violence and femicide, safety in taxis and taxi ranks, women's leadership, and economic empowerment in the transport sector.
